“The body is held together by sound, and the presence of disease indicates that some sounds are out of tune” ~Deepak Chopra

With April being the month of stress awareness, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about the benefits of sound healing as a way to calm and soothe the stressed nervous system.
There are all kinds of sound healing, with music being the one most utilized with it being so universal and available.
I LOVE music!! Music of any kind...and who doesn’t? Music has the ability to transform the energy around you and within you. When I’m listening to music, I can’t help but be in a good mood. It lifts your spirits and can shift your vibration, be it to help relax you or get you feeling pumped and make you want to dance. Not only can music add joy in your life, the benefits are far greater than that! It’s not only about enjoying the sound and lyrics of a song, the frequencies and vibrations can have a positive impact on your physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing. It’s definitely been one of my go-tos when I’m needing to unwind.
Sound healing is a natural way to relax and release tension from the body, using various tones. This therapy sends waves of frequency through the brain to allow calming effects. The benefits of sound healing therapy can have an immediate and positive impact on your life.
Since your organs, tissues, cells, etc. all vibrate at various frequencies of sound, using sound to heal and relieve stress is a great modality to explore.
The first benefit you can expect to receive is a more relaxed state of mind as stress leaves the body, but sound therapy goes much deeper than a general sense of well-being. Many ailments and chronic conditions that people just accept as being a permanent part of their life, can be greatly reduced and even healed through sound therapy.
Because stress can lower our autoimmune system and greatly affect our overall health, doing alternative therapy that helps relieve stress is so extremely beneficial and isn’t always recommended in mainstream medicine.
So how does it work?
During a sound healing, the practitioner has you lay fully clothed on a massage table or couch and uses different waves of sounds, instruments and voice to send waves of sound through your body. Generally a sound session can last anywhere from forty five minutes to an hour in length.
There are other ways to get sound therapy apart from getting a session from a sound therapist. They include the use of tuning forks, a fork shaped instrument that when tapped, sends off vibrational frequencies, sound bowls of different sizes and made from different materials, such as crystal or metal, drums and a variety of other musical instruments.
I often like to get sound therapy through music with subliminal messages and tones called binaural beats. YouTube has many options for music therapy and you can also find many different kinds of guided meditations that help with just about any ailments the body may suffer from. Below are some links to sound healing that I have really enjoyed.
